A tote is useful when the process needs a named movement rather than open-ended storage. Define the permitted item or WIP state, departure point, destination, route identifier, receiving owner, and exception action before the tote leaves its source. Part 4. Keep the box role specific
“Box” can describe a physical form without saying how the line will use it.
